The plot progressed slowly, introducing a lot of different threads up until the middle of the book, but the chapters still felt identical to each other, because the characters spent their weekends in mostly the same way every time. I think it was unnecessary to show every weekend Adam and Jolene spent at their shared apartment building.The book was on the longer side for YA romance-512 pages.The exploration of grief’s effect on a family and individuals is openhearted and will surely resonate with readers, regardless of whether or not they’ve lost someone.The sibling bond here is not to be missed! Adam, the other main character, has a rocky relationship with his older brother following the death of their eldest brother, but I liked the way their dynamic progressed.She wants to direct movies, and I loved the way in her narration she described the world how she would film it: capturing angles, lighting, and telling stories. I’m also a sucker for characters with creative hobbies, and Jolene is a filmmaker.I was horrified by her abusive family, and I wanted to reach through the pages and reassure her that everything will be okay, and that it’s good to imagine a thousand beautiful futures.
